Before the World War I, in 1910, J. Hlavatý built the first smaller iron foundry in Třebechovice. Various castings for agricultural machines were cast there. After having built a foundry in Nové Město nad Metují, in which J. Hlavatý had a financial interest, he sold the foundry in Třebechovice to Mr. J. Pokora. With the new owner, the company expanded its production by woodworking machines, mostly planers. Even customers abroad showed a lot of interest in the foundry's products.
The foundry was not working during the World War II. After liberation in 1945, the foundry was taken by "Stavební podnik" (Construction Company), subsequently changed to Kovoslužba, national enterprise. After the national enterprise "Strojírny potravinářského průmyslu" (Food Industry Machine Works) had been established, the whole Kovoslužba Company was transferred to it. In this time, the foundry expanded and the core molding department and hand molding shop were formed. Number of employees as well as production increased. Production of woodworking machines was finished and the company concentrated to food industry machines and equipment production. The need for new patterning facilities increased with the new production and thus a new wood- and metal-pattern shops with a more modern equipment were built in 1960. The old wooden buildings were gradually liquidated. In that time, the foundry had already two cupolas of 600 mm diameter and produced up to 1,400 tons yearly. Production of castings increased; however, needs for complexity and quality of production increased as well. The old foundry's premises were not satisfactory from both production and hygienic point of view and, therefore, a new foundry hall was built and put into testing operation in 1972. The air shop was equipped with two new cupolas of 700 mm diameter and a charging equipment, foundry crane, sand and chemical laboratory, and a mobile balance weighing machine with a signaling system. Castings polishing shop was equipped with a blast machine and other machines for the castings finishing. New sanitary facilities for the employees were built as well.
The old foundry's building was demolished in the eighties. However, modernization of the foundry has not been finished by this. Gradually, sand handling and sand distribution to individual machines and working sites were mechanized. New polishing hall with a great chamber blast machine was put into operation. Construction of carbon dioxide and oxygen containers including their distribution to individual working sites of the core-molding department was the last modernization event. Modernization of the whole plant, not only of the foundry, is the prime aim of the new TSS, spol. s r. o. company that privatized the foundry in 1992. Actual production program is aimed to production of gray iron castings, bronze castings, aluminum castings, and brass castings (both sand and mould ones). In addition to its main work, i.e. patterns production. Machine production is specialized to tools, jigs, fixtures, moulds, and filling and packing machines and equipment.
